I was told by my friend a while ago to make an environment based around Peter Parker's room from the Original Spider-Man 2 and 3. For the past 7 weeks I've basically created my childhood movie. I always liked how bleak and worn down the apartment was and how Peter Parker works freelance for the Daily Bugle and saves the city. From a young age I was always connected to Peter Parker's story, but now as an Adult the struggles resonate with me more; I really wanted to capture the essence of that movie.
I had a lot of fun creating my first interior environment as well as creating tons of props. My favorite part of this project was the slight Easter eggs from the movie. I will add that naturally, the movie takes obvious liberties in many aspects in regards to shot placement and props and, like any room, slightly changes around as time goes on. This meant I had to pick the clearest view of an object and decide where it should go. So some of the chosen props are referenced from Spider-Man 3 since the props from the movie are in a better resolution/view, and I felt the composition suited it better.
One big example of this was: noticing that in Spider-Man 3, the layout of his room drastically changes, with even the props from the previous film slightly changing too (the police scanner changes!). So I had to decide on a middle ground on what to include. In total I would say this room is set between Spider-Man 2 and 3, so Spider-Man 2.5.
With props that weren't properly visible, I decided I couldn't totally remove them; I had to make appropriate replacements that would work for the character. One example would be additional hints to the universe of the film, with hints to Doc Ock, Norman and Harry Osborn, Mary Jane, The Daily Bugle, Dr. Connors, or any other character within the universe. I also made de-branded/fake replacements for many of Peter's products within Photoshop, which took a significant portion of the 7 weeks! This involved re-designing labels for tin foil, a honey jar label, and prescriptions that he might have had.
Throughout this project I want to say thank you to Zach, Ben and Ryan for giving me tips and pointers along this really enjoyable project. They really gave me guidance on what to include and what to present. I also want to thank Malachi for giving me the idea, though I didn't expect it to be as difficult :D.
I hope it captures the movie and I hope you enjoy it.
